A century-old crime reimagined through puppetry and testimony—Egypt’s most infamous murder case told where it happened.
Rayya and Sekeena: Echoes of the Past is a bold reinterpretation of Egypt’s most chilling true crime. Using the evocative art of puppet theatre, the film recreates the infamous early 20th-century murder spree committed by two sisters in Alexandria. Guided by acclaimed actor Sherif El-Desouki and shot on real historical locations, the film combines cinematic reconstruction with folklore, police archives, and haunting street performances.
This stylized documentary delves deep into the social history behind the murders, their media sensationalism, and their lingering impact on Egyptian culture. Featuring custom-designed puppets, original set pieces, and testimony from locals in Alexandria’s El-Labban district, the story comes alive again—through the eyes of the neighborhood that never forgot.
